Tibet Major Tourist Attractions
Lhasa
A sacred yet to be mysterious land tibet lies on a snow plateau. The Lhasa, which means the city of sunlight is a unique and spiritual city of tibet with astounding historical attractions such as Potala palace, Norbulingka, Drepung Monastery, sera monastery, jorkhang temple and barkhor street market. The splendors and grandeur of the Potala Palace in Lhasa remains a world-famous symbol of the enigmatic power of politics and religions of Tibet.
Potala Palace
Such a rare beauty of the world the Potala palace was the administration, religious and symbolic center of Tibet. Potala Palace is located on Marpori or often called Potala hills at an altitude of 3,700-m. Situated in the center of Lhasa, nominated by UNESCO as the world heritage site. The very attractive 400m east to west and 350m north with slopping stone walls about 3m thick reserved the 5m thick at the base believed to be kept copper into the foundation to help it save from earthquakes. The Thirteen stories of Potala buildings containing over 1,000 rooms, 10,000 shrines and about 200,000 statues soar 117 metres (384 ft) on top of Marpo Ri, the "Red Hill", rising more than 300 m (about 1,000 ft) in total above the valley floor. You can vist the palace from 9.00 to 12.00 in the morning and from 3.00 to 5.00 in the evening. It is the one great place to set the pace once in lifetime to gaze the wonder.
Norbulingkha Palace
The “Jewel Park” as it is known in Tibetan, was built in the 18th century and served as the summer Palace of the 13th and the 14th Dalai Lamas. The Palace is an interesting mixtures of religious and modern elements and as we walk through to see the main throne hall, an audience hall, The Dalai Lama’s Bed room and prayer room and the room for his mother. This colourful garden landscape was the site of picnic and public gatherings. The palaces are richly decorated, creating an atmosphere of peaceful repose
Shigatse
The second biggest city and former capital of Tibet, Shigatse situated at an elevation of 3,800m above sea level and now turning into the important administration center of tibet. About 300 km from Lhasa, it is an important stop between Lhasa and west Tibet where pilgrims and tourists often wander. It is also the perfect place to get experienced between old Tibetan town as well as modern Chinenese part of town. This place also offers the highest snow-capped peaks of Tibet including Mt.Everest.
Tashilumpo Monastery
An amazing statue of giant Maitreya’s Tashilumpo Monastery is believed to be the largest one in the world, erected by the 9th Panchen Lama in 1914, the statue stand 26 meters in height and 275 kg in weight with solid gold, great quantity of precious things such as pearls, turquoises, corals and ambers. The Panchen Lama, painted in red and white, the buildings in the monastery stand closely together in terraced rows, offering a grad and majestic view.
Tirthapuri
Renowned sacred place Tirthapuri was originally founded temple and given its name in the mid-11 century by the great Indian Buddhist called Atisha, who came to help in the revival of Buddhism. Tibetan People believed it as a dwelling place of Padmasambhava often called Tibetan Guru Rimpoche in Tibet offers the wonderful view of prayers flag hanging under the cobalt sky can draw your attention far from distances to reveal your inner mind by exploring Monasteries.

Historical arts and cultural opulence Tholing is located in northwest to the Country town of Zhada, established the Monastery around the beginning of the 10th century by the king Guge with immense intentions to evoke Buddhist in Tibet. It is the place where you could gaze the masterpieces of arts and architecture and equally breathtaking varied landscape are quite magnificent to take glimpse for a moment.
Mt. Kailash
The well-known sacred mountain, the mount Kaliash is the prime attraction of Tibet and stays with strong beliefs and reverence among Buddhist and Hindus. Hindu regards Mount Kailash is the dwelling place of Shiva, a famous Hindu God whereas Buddhist it is the abode of Demchok, the wrathful manifestation of Buddha. It was believed to have been formed over 30 million years ago at the early formation time of Himalaya. Every year lots of devotees come across from all over the world.
Jokhang Temple
Ultimate Buddhist pilgrimage destinations, the Jokhang temple was originally built in 647 A.D. during the reign of the king Songsten Gampo to celebrate his marriage with Chinese Tang dynasty, who was Buddhist. The main building is a four story wood building covered with stucco and featuring many golden accents on its roof. Listed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2,000 along with Lhasa's Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple is a must-visited place in Tibet. The famous Barkhor Street surrounds the temple complex and pilgrims heading to Jokhang Temple seen walking around clockwise.
Rongbuk Monastery
Incredible diaphanous landscape to gaze the wonders of top of the world, the Mount Everest and roaring glaciers at the same time from the court yard of this fantastic five-tier building of Rongbuk monastery is believed to be the highest one on earth. In the frontispiece of the main hall, were sacrificed the statues of Sakyamuni and Guru Rimpoche. In addition, the mural paintings inside are especially worthy of appreciation. In front of the monastery are a white pagoda and a Mani stone pile, which are often selected as the foreground to take photographs of Mt. Everest. The monastery performs various festivals throughout the year with colorful mask dance.
